The Oris x Cervo Volante Big Crown Pointer Date 01 754 7785 4038-Set brings the rich colours of autumn in Switzerland’s Waldenburg Valley to one of Oris’s most enduring mechanical designs. Its deep burgundy dial is paired with a naturally textured brown deer-leather strap, creating a warm and characterful special edition rooted in the landscape surrounding the Oris factory in Hölstein.

The collaboration continues Oris’s relationship with Cervo Volante, a Swiss leather company founded in 2017 by two entrepreneurs with backgrounds in biotechnology and wildlife management. Switzerland carefully manages its wild deer population to maintain the health of the country’s natural environment. Cervo Volante prevents the resulting hides from being discarded by transforming them into durable leather goods with a traceable and considered origin.

The leather is naturally processed in one of Switzerland’s remaining vegetable tanneries. Rather than covering the material’s grain, marks and natural irregularities, Cervo Volante allows them to remain visible. These individual characteristics give each strap its own appearance and reflect the material’s genuine origin.

The Big Crown Pointer Date provides a fitting foundation for the collaboration. Present in the Oris collection since 1938, its defining features include an oversized crown, finely fluted bezel and dedicated central hand that indicates the date around the dial’s perimeter. The date display preserves the symmetry of the dial while turning an everyday calendar function into one of the watch’s most recognizable design elements.

Its burgundy dial is accented by printed Arabic numerals, luminous indices and cathedral-style hands. Super-LumiNova applied to the hands, numerals and indices supports readability in reduced light, while the red triangular tip of the date hand clearly identifies the current date. The changing depth of the burgundy colour gives the watch an especially expressive appearance as it moves through different lighting conditions.

The multi-piece stainless-steel case measures 40 mm in diameter, 48.20 mm from lug to lug and 12.20 mm thick. A double-domed sapphire crystal recalls the profile of vintage acrylic while providing modern scratch resistance. Interior anti-reflective treatment improves dial visibility, and the screw-in security crown contributes to water resistance of 5 bar, 50 metres or 165 feet.

Inside is the Swiss Made automatic Oris Calibre 754. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz, the 26-jewel movement supplies approximately 41 hours of power reserve. Its functions include central hours, minutes and seconds, an instantaneous pointer date, date correction, fine timing and stop-seconds. The movement can be viewed through the mineral-glass window in the screwed stainless-steel caseback.

A quick-change system allows the brown Cervo Volante strap to be removed without conventional tools. Each watch is also delivered with a coordinating travel pouch produced from the same sustainable Swiss deer leather, extending the collaboration beyond the watch itself.
