At the heart of every Eco-Drive model in The CITIZEN collection is the Calibre A060, a high-accuracy quartz movement individually regulated to achieve an extraordinary ±5 seconds per year. This level of annual tolerance is not incidental — it is the result of a deliberate and methodical regulation process.
Only the most stable crystal oscillators are selected. Each oscillator undergoes a six-month observation period to confirm long-term consistency before being approved for use. Even after final assembly, every movement is retested to ensure it meets Citizen’s uncompromising performance standards.
Accuracy is further reinforced by an advanced temperature correction system. The movement measures internal temperature 1,440 times per day in 0.1-degree increments, automatically adjusting in real time to counteract environmental fluctuations. This continuous calibration ensures stable performance regardless of climate.
Unlike conventional quartz watches, The CITIZEN is powered by Eco-Drive technology, converting natural or artificial light into stored energy. When fully charged, the movement provides approximately 1.5 years of autonomy, eliminating battery replacement while maintaining precision.
Each timepiece is assembled in a dedicated workshop in Nagano, Japan, under the supervision of master craftsmen known as Meisters. Their role extends beyond technical assembly — they oversee finishing, alignment, and final regulation to ensure every watch reflects both mechanical integrity and aesthetic restraint.
Many references within The CITIZEN collection feature dials crafted from traditional Japanese washi paper, a material historically used as a light diffuser in lanterns and sliding doors. Its long fibres allow light to pass through to power the Eco-Drive system while creating a subtle interplay of texture and illumination. This fusion of centuries-old craftsmanship and contemporary engineering defines the spirit of The CITIZEN.
Cases are constructed in Super Titanium™, a proprietary material significantly lighter and more scratch-resistant than stainless steel. In select references, DLC coatings further enhance surface hardness while preserving refined finishing transitions.
